Robotics
Vikings Robotics is a student run team from La Jolla High school. Our team has 20 full time members, and 2 full-time mentors.
Most of our members have little prior knowledge when they join our team; the skills that people learn through FIRST Robotics can’t be easily taught in a classroom or learned at home.
Prior team members continue to use what they have learned into college and adult life. Members have gone on to pursue STEM degrees at engineering focused colleges such as Cal Tech, MIT, UC Berkeley, and Cal Poly SLO.
Go here for the team web site. Donations are more than welcome.

Science Olympiad
Science Olympiad is a student-run team at La Jolla High that competes at in the Science Olympiad competition, an international competition which consists of 23 events pertaining to various scientific disciplines, including earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering. Competing consists of anything from lab work to written tests to building propeller planes.
La Jolla High was competed in Science Olympiad since the late 80’s winning the state competition in ‘89-93 and ‘95, and has proceeded to win nationals in ‘91 and ‘92. However the team was disbanded and re-founded in 2017, and qualified state in 2018. Students learn to develop in a great competitive environment, and former members have gone on to take their talents to schools like UC Berkeley, Caltech, UChicago and MIT.

Speech & Debate
The LJHS Speech and Debate team is a rapidly growing, student-led team that encourages students to improve their competitive public speaking skills. Our competition season typically lasts from October to February, up to April if members advance to state-level competition. Throughout the year, we prepare and practice for 4 major league tournaments in the country, amongst private and public high schools. Our team consists of 2 branches: Debate members and Speech competitors. On the debate side, our members have the chance to practice impromptu debate. Students learn to think on their feet and learn to make creative arguments in a limited amount of time. On the speech side, members can choose to compete individually or in pairs. Speech events and styles for competitors range from poetry, original oratory, interpretations of written speeches, or something original and impromptu.
Our team truly does have something for everyone, and we all work collaboratively to help each other succeed. Our team advisor, Mrs. Fox, helps plan our tournaments and lead meetings, but the practice for tournaments is driven largely by the team's student leaders/mentors/captains.
